Gallery Love and a Freebie

It's my last wednesday for gallery love for a while, in July I will be blogging on Mondays.

First up is IvoryKeys, she used the Purely Perfect mini kit.
I love how she balanced the cluster in one corner with the pretty grunge on the other corner.

Pick up Purely Pixels at Scrapbook Bytes, and get the worn papers free with purchase.

I really like the use of the frames in the second layout of the day, from bergstromfarms.
Also nice is how the yellow ties everything together; the paper, frames, embellies and the photos all have some yellow.

Whispers Kit: Classic and Vintage Cool Blue Hues

Hi! It's me, Noemi once again this time to bring some more goodies from Mel's stuff. I thought I'd share with you one of my all-time favorite kit from her stores. Have you seen her Whispers Kit? If you haven't, then you should. It has the most beautiful blue hues combination I have seen. You'll love not just its colors and designs... You'll love the elements even more. The kit includes 12 perfectly designed papers and 36 elements (flowers, metallic elements, a bird lace, some ribbons, frames, stitch, swirls, and strings). Not to mention, the kit also includes a set of complete lower case metallic alphas. Here is a preview of the kit:

The kit is perfect for those photos with a vinatge and classic touch. Here are a few layouts made with the kit:

Gallery Love

Do you need some inspiration? I have two fabulous galleries for you to browse and find some amazing pages.
KerryT has great pages and if you want some inspiration on using more than one photo on a page- you'll find some wonderful ideas here. Rumor also has it that there may be a recipe for a lime coconut cheesecake on one of the pages.

She did a wonderful job on this page and I love the bright green for a little boy's page.

Forever Loved

If you'd like to work on some blocking- check out darthChrista's gallery. Here is a great example of using masking to highlight the photo. I love how blue it made the eyes, it really draws me in.

Sweet Bliss
Gotta Pixel

Stop by both of the galleries to leave them some love and find some inspiration. Scrap-lift anyone??

I will have a little freebie for you next week to celebrate the release of a new kit by A+ Designs.

Tuesday Tip: Coloring Selectively for Emphasis

Have you ever wondered how others come up with a photo with a differently colored subject? I am not sure how experts call it but others refer to it as "selective coloring." It works in such a way that you color your main subject differently from the rest of the photo. Here is one I made:

I applied the technique to the middle photo leaving the subjects colored while the rest of the image was desaturated or turned to black and white. To give even more emphasis, I added a clustered frame.

In this kit, I used Mel's colorful Festive Euphony Kit and Zesty Spice Kit together. They are both available in her stores at Gotta Pixel and Scrapbook-Bytes.

So, how did I do it?

1. Open your photo in Photoshop. Using any selection tools (Marquee or Lasso Tools), select your main subject in the photo. Press CTRL-SHIFT-I so the selected area would be shifted to the rest of the image excluding the main subject.

2. Click on Image from the menu bar, click Adjustments, then choose Desaturate.

3. Voila! Now your main subject is left colored while the rest of the photo is not.

This technique is also used when you want to edit only some parts of a photo. You can apply filters or edit the selected image in any way you want. There are in fact hundreds of similar tutorials that you might want to check in the web. The good thing with Photoshop is, you can work your way in different steps and still be able to achieve the same effect. You only need to experiment and practice. This one so far has been the easiest way for me to achieve such effect.

Well, that's it for now. We hope you learned something from us today. We would appreciate any comments from you if you liked this tip and you can tell us if you need to learn anything more. We'd also love to see what you've come up with using this technique. Just leave us some love and a link to what you did.

Have fun! and don't forget, you can check Mel's designs at Gotta Pixel and Scrapbook-bytes :)

Until next time!
